New Book Series
As part of the mission of recovering the work and history of women film pioneers, it was determined that a series of books about these filmmakers would be useful not only to scholars and students of early film and women's film but to film enthusiasts who can now view some of these restored films thanks to the support of the Museum of Modern Art, the Library of Congress, and the Turner Classic Movies network. The Women Film Pioneers Project has joined with the University of Illinois Press to launch a new book series.

What kinds of books are to be included in the series?
In general, three types, plus a sourcebook of primary materials. We are looking for single-authored books, single and multiple-authored collections, and monographs (40,000 to 50,000 words). We imagine that single-authored and multiple-authored collections will not be significantly different from books regularly published in the field. (Proposal format will then not be different either.) However, we are envisioning a different format for the monograph series which will focus on a single figure or a single film.

About the Monographs
Each monograph will be written in a clear accessible manner and will include a short biography, critical interpretation of the work, bibliography, filmography, and other archival information. For more information, see the Women Film Pioneers Monographs page.

The Sourcebook
The sourcebook will compile primary materials - including images, a career overview, and a bibliography - for specific women film pioneers. Its goal is to facilitate and encourage scholarly work on early women in the international film industry. For more information, see the Women Film Pioneers Sourcebook page (for contributors only).
